Ok I have to admit that I wasn't that enticed by the Anna pattern when it was released. I thought the style was a little matronly (even with the thigh high split!) but after seeing it made up in softer fabrics looking great on others I thought I would give it a try. Now I am in love with this dress. The easy kimono sleeve bodice was super fast to sew up and the pleats are beautiful. The skirt also falls really elegantly and the whole fit is just right for me.
I had this red and cream polka dot rayon in my stash and knew it would work well with the vintage details of the Anna dress. I cut a size US 6/ UK 10 and it was spot on the measurements. The back gaping that I read about in a lot of reviews didn't happen, but then I have pretty terrible posture so that might be why!
I sewed my seams and then serged the raw edges on my new serger!!! a surprise birthday present from my mum (thanks mum!) it is so much fun and makes me happy knowing the edges will be secure without having to french seam all the time.
I have a feeling this will be my new obsession and plan on making many more in 40's prints a la Allie Hamilton of "The Notebook" one of my favourite movies ever for sewing inspiration.
